On the second day of his visit to Vientiane, Lao PDR, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the 19th East Asia Summit. During the summit, he met New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Thailand’s Prime Minister Patongtarn Shinawatra. He also met with Lao PDR President Thongla Sisolith and Prime Minister Sonexay Sipandoné. The Prime Minister has now left for India.

PM Modi congratulated the Prime Minister of Laos for successfully hosting the 21st ASEAN-India and 19th East Asia Summits. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post that the partnership between India and Laos has been given a new impetus. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Sipandon held fruitful discussions with the aim of further strengthening relations between the two countries, In which many issues including heritage conservation and revitalization, development partnership, capacity building, economic relations, defence, culture and people-to-people ties between the two countries were discussed.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, it was said that the Prime Ministers of both the countries held meaningful talks on further strengthening the civilizational and contemporary relations between India and Laos. They discussed various areas of bilateral relations such as development partnership, capacity building, disaster management, renewable energy, heritage restoration, economic relations, defense cooperation and people-to-people ties between the two countries. Prime Minister Sipandon thanked Prime Minister Modi for the assistance provided by India during the floods caused by ‘Typhoon Yagi’ in Lao PDR.
