The Rajapaksa family’s ‘Sri Lanka People’s Front’ (SLPP) has won two seats. Analysts say that compared to the presidential elections held in September, the NPP has now got a bigger lead.
The ruling party ‘National People’s Power’ (NPP) led by President Anura Kumar Dissanayake is heading towards an absolute majority in the parliamentary elections held in Sri Lanka on Thursday.
In the counting of votes till 6 am local time on Friday morning, NPP has got about 62 percent votes at the national level. It has secured 35 seats out of the proposed 196 seats under proportional representation from the districts.
The main opposition party ‘Samagi Jana Balavegaya’ (SJB) got 18 percent votes and the ‘National Democratic Front’ (NDF) supported by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe got less than five percent votes. SJB won eight seats while NDP won one seat.
