S Jaishankar Pakistan Visit: India’s Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has reached Pakistan to attend the 23rd meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of SCO. India’s Foreign Minister has reached Pakistan for the first time in 9 years to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting. This visit of the Indian Foreign Minister is considered very important. He had recently said that like any neighboring country, India would like better relations with Pakistan. But, this cannot be done by ignoring cross-border terrorism.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will host the dinner and with this the SCO summit will begin. This is the first high-level visit from India to Pakistan amid the ongoing tension in relations between the two neighboring countries for the last several years.
There will be no bilateral talks between India and Pakistan
Let us also note here that both sides have denied any bilateral talks between Jaishankar and his Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar on the sidelines of the SCO Heads of Government Summit. The last External Affairs Minister of India to visit Pakistan was Sushma Swaraj. He traveled to Islamabad in December 2015 to attend a conference on Afghanistan. Pakistan had invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August to participate in the SCO summit.
Strong security arrangements
Tight security arrangements have been made for the SCO summit in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad. Security personnel have been deployed at hotels and places where foreign delegations are staying. Personnel of Pakistan Army, intelligence agencies, Frontier Corps (FC) and Rangers have also been deployed.
