Pakistani Beggars In Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia is troubled by Pakistani beggars. Saudi Arabia has expressed concern over the increasing number of beggars coming from Pakistan under the guise of Umrah. The Saudi government has taken a tough stand and has asked Pakistan to stop such people (beggars) before they come here and take action against them. Pakistani newspaper Express Tribune, quoting sources in the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Pakistan, has reported that Saudi officials have warned that if Pakistan is unable to stop the beggars, it may affect Pakistani Umrah and Hajj pilgrims.
Pakistan will tighten the noose
“The Saudi Hajj Ministry has issued a warning to Pakistan’s Ministry of Religious Affairs, urging it to take action to prevent Pakistani beggars from entering the Gulf country under Umrah visa,” the report said. Following the warning, Pakistan’s Ministry of Religious Affairs has decided to introduce the ‘Umrah Act’, which aims to regulate travel agencies arranging Umrah and bring them under legal supervision.
Pakistanis go to Saudi and beg
In a meeting with Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Said Ahmed al-Maliki over the matter, Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi had assured him that strict action would be taken against the mafia responsible for sending beggars to Saudi Arabia. Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency has been tasked with cracking down on this network, which Mohsin says has damaged Pakistan’s image. Pakistani beggars travel to the Gulf country under the guise of Umrah and then beg.
A shocking case
Recently, a shocking news related to beggars came to light in Pakistan. Here in Sargodha district of Punjab province, five lakh rupees were found in the pocket of an unconscious beggar.
