Pakistan’s Interior Ministry on Sunday rejected allegations of killings by security forces during violent protests by supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan last week.

The ministry said security personnel were deployed “without ammunition” to disperse the crowd. Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had started the protest on November 24 by staging a sit-in at D-Chowk, the center of power in Islamabad.

The party claimed that several of its supporters were killed in alleged firing by security forces on Tuesday night. The Home Minister issued a detailed statement regarding the protests, rejecting PTI’s claims of killings of its workers.

“The LEAs (law enforcement agencies) comprising police and Rangers were deployed without ammunition to disperse the violent mob, while the Army neither came into direct confrontation with the miscreants nor His services were taken for riot control.
