After new cases of polio were reported in Pakistan, the Sharif government on Monday started a new vaccination campaign across the country so that 4.5 crore children of the country can be saved from falling prey to polio. Vaccination campaigns are conducted regularly in Pakistan, but terrorist attacks continue to occur on health workers and the police personnel providing security to them. Pakistan is one of the few countries where polio has not been eradicated yet.

Ayesha Raza Farooq, advisor to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, said that due to the increase in polio cases, the vaccination campaign has been started for the third time this year and will continue till Sunday. He said in a statement that this time we are running a more vigorous campaign to fight polio. Farooq said that children below five years of age will be given door-to-door vaccination and will be given Vitamin A supplements to increase their immunity.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently met health workers and asked them to go door-to-door to administer polio vaccination so that no child is left out. Farooq said that so far this year, 41 cases of polio have been registered in 71 districts of Pakistan. Most of these cases have been reported from south-western Balochistan and southern Sindh province. After this, cases have been reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and East Punjab province.
