“Chief Adviser Yunus has discussed the issue of Hasina’s trial with International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim A Khan,” an official at the Chief Adviser’s press unit in Bangladesh said. Khan has met Yunus at his official Jamuna residence.” The official said Yunus told him during his meeting with Khan that his government intends to pursue charges against Hasina and her associates.

According to the press unit, during their discussions the two also discussed the Rohingya crisis and humanitarian aid for them, the situation in Myanmar as well as the prosecution and accountability of atrocities during the July-August mass movement in Bangladesh. Khan told Yunus that his office has formally requested an arrest warrant for Min Aung Hlaing, the head of Myanmar’s military government, for crimes against humanity in relation to the treatment of the Rohingya.
Dhaka sought Interpol’s help
Hasina had left the country for India on August 5 following widespread protests against the Awami League-led government over the controversial job reservation system. Three days later, Nobel laureate Yunus took charge as chief advisor to the interim government. Many of Hasina’s associates are in jail or have left the country. At the same time, Dhaka has sought Interpol’s help for Hasina’s return to India. (Language)
