There should be a thorough investigation into all the deaths in Bangladesh violence, panic in Dhaka due to UN order

United Nations.

Dhaka: The United Nations has ordered an investigation into all deaths in the Bangladesh violence. A top UN human rights official on Wednesday called for a thorough investigation into all killings and other human rights violations committed during the violence that preceded and followed the ouster of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. This has created panic in the caretaker interim government of Bangladesh. However, interim government caretaker and Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus has not yet reacted to this.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk’s two-day visit to Bangladesh concluded on Wednesday. His visit comes at a time when the interim government led by Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus is dealing with the challenges of establishing order in the country. Hasina had left the country for India on August 5 after student-led anti-government protests in July turned into a movement. During this period, hundreds of students, security officers and other people were killed.

UN had sent a team earlier also

The United Nations had earlier sent a team to investigate the deaths during violence in Bangladesh. The Turks have already sent a fact-finding team to investigate the killings after the Yunus-led government formally requested a UN investigation. Hasina had also demanded an investigation into the murders. Turki underlined the need for a thorough investigation into allegations of attacks on minority groups in the country, including the Hindu religious minority. (Language)
