Washington: After finalizing the names of his cabinet ministers, America’s newly elected President Donald Trump is now finalizing the names of US ambassadors to important countries. Meanwhile, on Wednesday he announced the name of Acting Attorney General Matthew G. Whitaker for US Ambassador to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). After this, former MP for Canada, Piet Hoekstra was nominated. With the announcement of these names, the tension between the European Union and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has started increasing.
Both these names are very close to Trump. Trump is choosing such names which can command loyalty for him. Therefore, it is natural for the European Union and Canada to be worried. Earlier, Trump had also finalized the name of Israel’s ambassador. Hoekstra, who was among the candidates to be nominated as Ambassador to Canada, represented Michigan’s Second District in Congress (U.S. Parliament) for nearly 20 years. During this period, he was also the Chairman of the Intelligence Committee of the House of Representatives. Trump said Whitaker will ensure that American interests are advanced and protected.
Who is Mathew, whom will NATO send?
“Matthews will strengthen our relationships with our NATO allies and firmly confront threats to peace and stability,” Trump said. He will take America to new heights.” He said, ”In my second term, Pete (former Congressman Pete Hoekstra) will once again help me take America to greater heights. He did an outstanding job during our first four years as U.S. Ambassador to the Netherlands, and I am confident he will continue to better represent our country in this new role.’ (Language)
