Was the new chief of Hezbollah also killed? No contact with Saffieddin after Israel's bombing of Beirut

Hashem Saffieddin

Since the Israeli army attack, Hashem Saffieddin, the possible successor of Hezbollah leader Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah, has not been able to be contacted. According to news agency Reuters, a Lebanese defense source has given this information. Israel launched a major attack on the southern suburbs of Beirut late Thursday night as part of its campaign against Hezbollah. According to Israeli officials, in this attack they targeted Hashem Safieddin, who was hiding in an underground bunker.

Hezbollah did not issue any statement

Israeli attacks on Beirut’s southern suburbs – known as Dahiyah – since Friday have prevented rescue workers from reaching the attack sites, according to Lebanese defense sources. Hezbollah has not yet issued any statement regarding Hashem Saffieddin since the attack. On the other hand, Israeli Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani said on Friday that the army is still assessing Thursday night’s air strikes. The Israeli military said it said the airstrike targeted Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters.

Shock for Hezbollah and Iran

Nasrallah’s death and the killing of his successor would be another blow to Hezbollah and its patron Iran. Israeli attacks in the region have intensified in the past few weeks, almost eliminating Hezbollah’s leadership.

Israel’s major military action inside Lebanon

Israel launched its first attack on the northern city of Tripoli on Saturday, expanding its military operation in Lebanon, a Lebanese security official said. Israel has launched a major offensive into Lebanon and sent troops across the border in recent weeks after nearly a year of fighting with Hezbollah. Fighting was previously mostly confined to the Israel-Lebanon border area, running parallel to Israel’s year-old war in Gaza against the Palestinian group Hamas.

Troubled by Hezbollah’s bombing, Israel took steps

Israel says its aim is to safely return thousands of civilians to their homes in northern Israel, which has been under bombardment by Hezbollah since October 8 last year. Israeli attacks have eliminated Hezbollah’s senior army leadership. Israel had killed Hezbollah Chief Hassan Nasrallah in an airstrike on September 27.

12 lakh people had to leave their homes

Lebanese officials say hundreds of Lebanese civilians, including rescue workers, have been killed in the Israeli attack and about 1.2 million people have been forced to flee their homes. An attack on a Palestinian refugee camp in Tripoli on Saturday killed a Hamas member, his wife and two children, a Lebanese security official told Reuters. Media associated with the Palestinian group also said that a leader of its armed wing was killed in the attack.
