Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, who is hosting the G-20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, warmly welcomed the Prime Minister. Modi said in a post on Twitter that he thanked President Lula for the warm welcome at the G-20 summit in Rio de Janeiro.

People of Indian origin in Brazil welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi with chants when he arrived here on Monday. A cultural program was also organized to welcome him in Brazil. Inaugurating the bilateral meeting, Brazilian President Lula told PM Modi that he has tried to do many things in his G20 which are inspired by the G20 in India. He said Brazil wants to reach the level of efficiency in organizing the summit that India showed last year.

Modi also spoke with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

Prime Minister Modi, in his address on the first day of the G20 summit, said that the countries of the ‘Global South’ are most affected by the food, fuel and fertilizer crisis due to global conflicts and the G20 should focus on addressing it. He said that it is a matter of great satisfaction that we gave priority to SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). We focused on inclusive growth, women-led development and youth power. And gave wings to the hopes and aspirations of the ‘Global South’. The Prime Minister said that it is clear that the theme of One Earth, One Family, One Future is as relevant at this summit as it was last year.
