He was executed at a cemetery in the western city of Hamedan on Tuesday morning. Nearly 200 women had accused 43-year-old Salamat, who runs a medicine shop and a gym, of rape. It was alleged that he had committed many crimes in the last 20 years. Iranian media reports said that in many cases, Salamat raped women after proposing marriage to them or during an affair.
Many women were given medicines and aborted after being raped.
It is alleged that after raping some women, the guilty person also allegedly gave them abortion medicines, which is illegal in Iran. He was arrested in January. It is said to be the worst case of rape committed by a criminal in Iran. After his arrest, hundreds of people gathered in front of the city’s Justice Department and demanded Salamat’s hanging.
