Track record of both candidates
Harris and Trump’s records are starkly different from each other on policy issues like LGBTQ+ rights and gun culture. Harris has consistently supported protecting and expanding abortion rights. Legal scholar Rachel Rebouche points out that Trump took actions while president that made it harder for people to get abortions. While Harris has consistently opposed the death penalty. Trump has supported it.
Reason for popularity of Trump and Harris
Alex Hinton, an anthropologist who has researched both the far right and political polarization in America, sheds light on why people still support Trump despite all the controversies and alleged misdeeds. Hinton points out that many people have many reasons to vote for Trump. Even if their argument, as it were, is true for the left as well. There are some central factors that keep Trump’s supporters loyal. When Trump was president they had more money and the economy seemed better. They are worried about immigration. And some supporters like his quirky personality. There is another side also. Why are people voting for Harris? Hinton explained that many people deeply dislike and distrust Trump, as well as the extreme direction they feel he might take the country. They argue that Harris combines stable leadership with a message of change, peace, honesty and hope for a better future.

Why is it important to vote?
None of this information matches up with undecided voters considering supporting a third-party candidate instead, or not voting at all. But according to behavioral economics scholar Daniel F. Stone, the argument that any individual vote would matter is not accurate. Stone says every single vote counts, especially in an election like this that is incredibly close in all the key swing states. For example, if the difference between Harris and Trump in a state like Pennsylvania is only 5,000 votes, it matters.
