On 13 February 2020, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson appointed Indian-origin politician Rishi Sunk as the country’s new Finance Minister. Sunk is the son-in-law of Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy. Priti Patel of Indian origin is also the UK Home Minister. Prime Minister Boris Johnson made the first reshuffle of his cabinet after winning the parliamentary elections in December by a majority. Under the leadership of Johnson, the Conservative Party returned to power with tremendous success in the general election held in December.
Please tell that Sunk has studied politics, philosophy, economics from Oxford University. Prior to this he studied at the famous Winchester College. In addition, he has an MBA from Stanford University in the US. Sunk’s father was a doctor and mother runs a chemist shop. Prior to joining politics, Sunk has also worked for investment bank Goldman Sachs and hedge funds. He later also established an investment firm.
It is noteworthy that before this, Sajida Javid of Pakistani origin had the charge of Finance Ministry. He had unexpectedly announced his resignation from the post recently. He was to present the government’s annual budget the following month. Javid’s spokesman confirmed his resignation.
