Pakistan atrocities on Bangladeshis during the freedom struggle cannot be forgotten: Sheikh Hasina


Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the atrocities of Pakistan during the War of Independence in 1971 are like an everlasting memory for Bangladesh. Talking with Pakistani High Commissioner Imran Ahmad Siddiqui in Dhaka, Hasina said, ‘The events of 1971 cannot be forgotten. The pain will last forever. ‘ Describing the book titled ‘Secret Documents of Intelligence Branch on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’, BDNews24 said that Hasina said that one can know many historical facts from 1948 to 1971 from books.

He further said that the Urdu version of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman book ‘Unfinished Memoirs’ is the best selling in Pakistan. That book is very much read in Pakistan and other countries. BDNews24 further stated that Pakistan High Commissioner said that his country wants to strengthen relations with Bangladesh. He also congratulated the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for his leadership in the international arena. He said that Bangladesh foreign policy is’ friendship towards all, not hostility towards anyone.

Communal harmony has been one of the important features of upholding the constitution of Bangladesh. Religious harmony has been maintained in Bengali culture for thousands of years. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman said in one of his speeches, ‘There are Hindus, Muslims, Bengalis, non-Bengalis in this Bengal. He is our brother. It is our responsibility to protect them so that we are not maligned.
