2 more SpiceJet planes received bomb threat, 14 flights affected in 3 days, police engaged in investigation
Amid a rise in bomb threats to airlines in India, SpiceJet also received bomb threats in connection with two of its flights on Wednesday. The threats were sent via direct message on X (formerly Twitter). An FIR has been registered at IGI Airport Police Station and investigation is underway. Police have so far taken action on seven incidents. The concerned authorities were immediately informed about the threats and safety protocols laid down by the airlines were followed. A SpiceJet spokesperson said, passengers on both the flights were deboarded safely.

After necessary clearance was given by the authorities, the aircraft were released for further operations. Over the past three days, Indian airlines have received a total of 12 threats, the latest of which was a bomb threat to a Bengaluru-bound Akasa Air flight and a Delhi-bound IndiGo flight. With today’s threats to SpiceJet, this number has now reached 14. Following the bomb scare, Akasa Air flight QP 1335, with 177 people on board, including three infants and seven crew members, returned to Delhi on Wednesday. IndiGo flight 6E 651 Mumbai-Delhi flight diverted to Ahmedabad after being diverted. All the passengers were taken off safely.
On Tuesday, Air India’s Delhi-Chicago flight, Ayodhya-Bengaluru Air India Express, Dammam-Lucknow IndiGo flight, SpiceJet flight from Darbhanga to Mumbai (SG116), Alliance Air’s Amritsar-Dehradun-Delhi flight (9I 650), and Akasa Air flight (QP 1373) from Bagdogra to Bengaluru and Air India Express flight (IX 684) from Madurai to Singapore had received bomb threats.

Two other IndiGo flights and one Air India flight received fake threats on Monday. These include IndiGo flight 6E1275 towards Muscat and flight 6E56 towards Jeddah and Air India flight AI119 from Mumbai to New York’s JFK airport. The Parliamentary Standing Committee held a meeting on this issue at 11 am on October 16. Earlier, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu had called another meeting with Civil Aviation Ministry and DGCA officials.
