A case of meningitis was reported in Delhi

A case of meningitis has been reported in Delhi. Official sources gave this information on Thursday. Sources said all public health measures have been initiated as per the guidelines of the National Center for Vector Borne Disease Control (NCVBDC), and there is no cause for concern.

The 72-year-old man from west Delhi was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences on November 3 after complaining of chest pain, sources said citing an order issued by the Delhi Municipal Corporation on Wednesday.

The source said that the patient has been suffering from various diseases including uncontrolled diabetes for 20 years and while admitted to the hospital, the patient was tested for Japanese Encephalitis for which his blood sample was taken on November 6.

The source said that he was found infected with ‘IgM Elisa’, after which he was discharged on November 15. According to IDSP data, 1,548 cases of meningitis were reported across 24 states and union territories in 2024, including 925 cases from Assam alone.
