During the ongoing winter session of Parliament in Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha on Tuesday filed a business suspension notice in the Rajya Sabha under Rule 267. Under this notice, a demand has been made to discuss the ‘deteriorating law and order situation’ and ‘increase in crimes’ in the national capital Delhi. Apart from Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh has also filed an adjournment motion notice in the Upper House, demanding a discussion on the deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi related to ‘increasing crimes’.
Let us inform that Sanjay Singh had earlier also filed adjournment notice on 2nd December and 29th November, in which a discussion was sought on the increasing crime rate in the national capital. Sanjay Singh Singh said in the notice filed that “data from major newspapers highlight the rise in crimes like robbery, attempt to murder, and crimes against women and the elderly.”
“Data from leading newspapers for 2024 highlights the worrying state of crime in the capital. Robbery cases have increased by 23 per cent, theft cases by 25.2 per cent while attempt to murder cases have increased by 18 per cent,” Singh said in the notice. There has been an increase.” The notice further said, “Delhi tops the list of crimes against women among metropolitan cities. This clearly reflects the lapses in the functioning of law and order.”
“The increase in crimes against women and senior citizens and 878 fatal road accidents are a matter of grave concern. There is an atmosphere of panic in Delhi due to incidents of gang war on the roads and illegal extortion from traders,” Singh said. He also highlighted the bomb threats in the national capital and called it a “failure of the security system” while such threats persist in the national capital. Singh said, “The recent threats of bomb blasts in Delhi in 2024 have exposed the fearless criminals who are not afraid of the policies of the Ministry and attempt such activities from the country’s Parliament to AIIMS, which is a threat to security. Shows a failure of the system.” He also said that more than 1 lakh 70 thousand crimes have been registered by Delhi Police last year.
