Aam Aadmi Party candidate Mahesh Khedi has defeated BJP candidate Kishan Lal by three votes in an interesting contest. Actually, elections for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor were held in Delhi Municipal Corporation on Thursday. A total of 265 votes were cast for the post of Mayor, out of which two votes were invalidated. While AAP candidate Mahesh Khegi got 133 votes, BJP candidate Kishanlal had to be content with 130 votes.

Corporation elections were held in Delhi in 2022 in which 134 councilors of Aam Aadmi Party won. At the same time, Congress boycotted the mayor elections in Delhi. The party said it wants the new mayor, a Dalit, to serve a full one-year term and not a shorter term, which will end in April next year. On the condition of anonymity, a Congress councilor said that we will be present in the House but will stay away from voting. We want the Dalit mayor to get the full tenure instead of just four months.
