Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday paid tribute to all the policemen martyred in the line of duty on the occasion of Police Memorial Day. Expressing gratitude for the sacrifices of police personnel towards the nation, Shah said this is an occasion to pay tribute to the immense sacrifices made by police personnel and their families in keeping India safe.
He wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “On the occasion of Police Memorial Day, I salute those martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice and were martyred while performing their duty.”
On 21 October 1959, 10 policemen were martyred in the line of duty in an ambush by heavily armed Chinese soldiers at ‘Hot Springs’ in Ladakh. Since then, ‘Police Memorial Day’ is observed every year on 21 October to honor these martyrs and all other police personnel martyred in the line of duty.
