A woman doctor at a private hospital in West Bengal capital Kolkata on Saturday lodged a police complaint alleging that an app-based bike rider sent her obscene videos after she canceled the booking due to delay.
An officer gave this information. He said that the accused was arrested within a few hours of the complaint being lodged by the victim. An FIR has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS), including sexual harassment, outraging the modesty of a woman and criminal intimidation, the official said.
The officer said that the doctor attached to a private medical center in the southern Jadavpur area of the city had booked a bike from the hospital through the app at 8 pm. He said preliminary investigation revealed that the bike driver of the accused app-based service had called the doctor at least 17 times and after canceling the booking, allegedly sent obscene material to him on WhatsApp.
The driver allegedly threatened the woman doctor of dire consequences, the officer said. He said, “The female doctor first lodged an e-complaint before the Commissioner of Police and Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime. He also sent an email to the cyber cell before filing the complaint at East Jadavpur police station.
