Coronavirus test and treatment may soon be covered in the government Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme. This information has been given by official sources on Tuesday. The National Health Authority responsible for the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) has decided that the test and treatment of respiratory disease should also be included under this scheme. For this, the Authority has sought permission from its Governing Board.
An official said that after getting the approval and the government has allowed treatment of patients of COVID-19 in private hospitals, we will implement it. After the implementation of this decision, the beneficiaries of Ayushman India will be able to get the corona virus tested. On getting positive, patients will be able to get treatment in the isolation ward of a private hospital for free.
Earlier, the CEO of Ayushman Bharat, Dr. Indu Bhushan has said that treatment of symptoms of COVID-19 such as pneumonia, fever, difficulty in breathing, etc. is available for free under the Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY by various packages. Beneficiaries can avail this benefit in prescribed hospitals.
PMJAY has been brought to provide health insurance benefits to 10.74 crore poor and deprived families of the country. Under this scheme, a family gets a cover of up to Rs 5 lakh every year for the treatment of certain diseases.
Corona cases have increased to 492 in the country. Maharashtra has the highest number of 101 patients. At the same time, 9 people have lost their lives. The lock down has been declared in 560 districts of the country. Punjab, Chandigarh, Maharashtra curfew has been imposed. There is also a lock down in the capital Delhi and section 144 is in place.
