Bahraich violence: Priyanka Gandhi appeals to Chief Minister for immediate action

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday said the administration’s “inaction” amid violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich is “unfortunate” and appealed to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to take strict action against the culprits.

A youth died in the violence that broke out during the Durga idol procession in Maharajganj area of ​​Mansoor village in Bahraich. The controversy started over playing music from loudspeaker.

About half a dozen people were injured in stone pelting and firing and 30 people have been detained. At the same time, on Monday, the mob came out on the road and set fire to some shops, which further increased the tension.

Some in the crowd were carrying sticks and iron rods. Priyanka Gandhi said on social media platform ‘X’, “The news of violence and inaction of the administration in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh is extremely sad and unfortunate.”

She said, “I appeal to the Chief Minister of the state and the state administration to take immediate action, take the public into confidence and stop the violence. Strictest action should be taken against the culprits.” Congress General Secretary said, “I have a solemn appeal to the public that please do not take the law into your hands and maintain peace.” Chief Minister Adityanath condemned the violence and said the culprits would not be spared.
