Liquor prohibition in Bihar is under intense scrutiny. Jan Suraj Party chief Prashant Kishor termed it a mere formality and said it exists only in government documents and political rhetoric. Kishor’s comments come in the wake of the recent hooch tragedy in which 25 people lost their lives in Siwan and Saran. Pointing out the chief minister’s inaction in reaching out to the affected families, Kishor remarked, “Corrupt leaders and mafias flourish while tragedies remain ignored.”

Prashant Kishore said that I am the first person who has been saying publicly from every platform for the last 3 years that liquor prohibition is not implemented anywhere in Bihar. Liquor prohibition applies only to government files and speeches of leaders. He said that yesterday’s incident is very sad. One and a half year ago, more than 70 people had died in Chapra. He clearly said that there is no district in Bihar where people have not died due to poisonous liquor. Many incidents were not even reported.
Prashant Kishore claimed that only corrupt leaders and mafias are benefiting from this. The insensitivity is so much that after so many deaths, government chief Nitish Kumar will not even go there on behalf of the government. Former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday attacked Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and said that the Chief Minister and his kitchen cabinet have become the pioneers of immoral and unprincipled politics. Tejashwi wrote in his ex-post that 27 people have been murdered due to poisonous liquor under the protection of power. Dozens lost their eyesight. There is alleged prohibition in Bihar but due to the nexus of ruling leaders, police and mafia, liquor is available at every intersection.
The RJD leader further said that so many people were killed but Chief Minister Nitish Kumar did not even express his condolences. Hundreds of people of Bihar die every day due to poisonous liquor and crime, but this is a normal thing for the Chief Minister and his kitchen cabinet, the pioneer of immoral and principleless politics. He said that no matter how many people are killed, it is a shame that any action be taken against any senior officer? On the contrary, will they be rewarded?

Tejashwi clearly said that if despite the prohibition, liquor is available at every square and corner, then is it not a failure of the Home Department and the Chief Minister? Is the Chief Minister conscious? Is the CM capable and able to think and take action on such incidents? Who is guilty of these murders? Continuing his attack, he said that there is hypocrisy in the name of review meeting. I am also worried about Nitish. We respect him. Regarding Nitish, he claimed that he is being fed something. Now he is no longer fit to run Bihar.
