History of Shirdi assembly seat
This assembly seat has been held by Congress Party, Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party as well as independent MLAs once or twice. Shirdi assembly seat came into existence in 1956, where Baijrao Tatya Kote won as a Congress Party candidate. After that, in 1962, Karbhari Bhimaji Rohamare won as a Congress candidate. In the 1967 elections, this seat was lost from the hands of the Congress Party and M.A. was elected as an independent candidate. Gade won. After that in 1972, independent candidate Shankarrao Genuji Kolhe won the election.
After this, after two consecutive setbacks, the Congress Party insisted on its candidate and kept this seat in its possession from 1976 to 1995. On the seat which was held by the Congress Party for a long time, Congress candidates kept changing but Congress kept winning. In 1976, Chandrabhan Bhausaheb Ghogre won on Congress ticket. Then in 1980, 1985 and 1990, Annasaheb Mhaske completed the hat-trick by winning. When Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil got the ticket in 1995, he became MLA on Congress ticket.

If we look at the records from 1995 to 2019, this place is held by Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil. Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, who started their politics from Congress Party, kept changing parties, but retained their seats. In 1995, he won for the first time on Congress Party ticket. Then he was successful in winning the elections in 1999 as a Shiv Sena candidate. After this, once again he reversed course and joined the Congress Party. After this, he became MLA on Congress ticket in 2004, 2009 and 2014. He had won the 2014 elections on the Congress Party ticket but once again he changed sides and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2019. Now he is going to contest the elections for the second time on Bharatiya Janata Party ticket.

Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil has made a record of becoming MLA for 7 consecutive times as MLA from Shirdi assembly constituency of Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. He is currently the Revenue Minister in the Government of Maharashtra and was the first minister to take oath in the Eknath Shinde ministry expansion after Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis in the cabinet expansion that took place on 9 August 2022. Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil has been a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly since 1995. He was elected in 2014 with 1,21,459 votes and again in the 2019 election with a record-breaking 1,32,316 votes.
