This assembly seat has been held by Congress Party, Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party as well as independent MLAs once or twice. Shirdi assembly seat came into existence in 1956, where Baijrao Tatya Kote won as a Congress Party candidate. After that, in 1962, Karbhari Bhimaji Rohamare won as a Congress candidate. In the 1967 elections, this seat was lost from the hands of the Congress Party and M.A. was elected as an independent candidate. Gade won. After that in 1972, independent candidate Shankarrao Genuji Kolhe won the election.
After this, after two consecutive setbacks, the Congress Party insisted on its candidate and kept this seat in its possession from 1976 to 1995.
