Congress general secretary and UDF candidate in the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election Priyanka Gandhi on Sunday intensified her criticism of the BJP-led central government, alleging that its leaders are “cut off” from the people.
Addressing a street meeting in Nikety area, he recalled his grandmother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her close association with tribal communities.
Priyanka said, “Those of you who are older may remember my grandmother Indira Gandhi’s deep respect and connection with the tribal people of India.” She said that Indira Gandhi always worked for the tribal people. Emphasis was laid on the connection with water, forest and land.
She said, “With this understanding, Indira Gandhi did a lot for the rights of the tribal people.” Highlighting the UPA government’s initiatives like Forest Rights Act, MNREGA and Right to Education, Priyanka said that these were aimed at the poorest of the poor. Have to help people.
He alleged that BJP’s policies benefit only a few people and the party is attacking these rights through its “negative” politics. He alleged, “BJP leaders are cut off from the public.”
Priyanka started her speech in Malayalam and greeted the people present. The by-election is being held here due to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi vacating the Wayanad seat after winning from Rae Bareli constituency in the general elections. Voting on this seat will be held on November 13.
