The campaign for the assembly elections going to be held in Maharashtra has come to an end. Voting will take place in the state tomorrow i.e. on 20th November and counting of votes will take place on 23rd November. Out of 288 seats in the state, Muktai Nagar seat also holds an important place in the politics of the state. BJP has ruled this seat for a long time. Eknath Khadse was elected from here on BJP ticket for a long time. Muktainagar assembly seat of Maharashtra is considered to be one of those seats in the state which is the stronghold of BJP. This victory chariot of BJP and Eknath Khadse stopped in the 2019 elections. After the crushing defeat in the 2019 elections, Eknath Khadse left BJP and joined NCP.
Know the results of 2019
This seat is known in the state less by its name and more by the name of the state’s veteran leader Eknath Khadse. BJP has never faced defeat on this seat since 1990. From 1990 to 2014, only Eknath Khadse has been contesting and winning elections on this seat. But, something happened in the 2019 elections which Khadse would hardly have imagined. In this election, Khadse’s daughter Rohini Eknath Khadse contested on BJP ticket. Chandrakant Nimba Patil filed independent nomination against him. Despite a close contest in this election, Chandrakant Nimba Patil won and defeated Rohini by 1,957 votes.
Political equations of the region
If we talk about caste equations in this assembly seat, then people of Patil community are in large numbers here. Their percentage in the assembly is about sixteen and a half percent. On the second place, people of Muslim community live here, whose number is about 9 percent. However, caste equations have never dominated the elections here.
Introduction of Chandrakant Patil
Chandrakant Patil joined BJP in 2005 and was appointed secretary of the party’s Maharashtra unit. He won the election of Legislative Councilor from Pune Graduate constituency in 2008 and 2014. After this, in 2014, when BJP came to power in Maharashtra, Chandrakant Patil got a place in the cabinet. Patil had the charge of Revenue, Textiles, Public Works Department, Cooperative and Commerce Department.
Patil had contested elections from Pune: In 2019, Chandrakant Patil decided to contest the assembly elections. After this, BJP chose Patil as its candidate from Pune city in place of the then party MLA Medha Kulkarni. Patil hails from Kolhapur district, but never contested elections from there. It was during his stay in ABVP that he came in contact with senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
