In Bhuj, Gujarat’s Kutch district, a case has been reported for forcing more than 60 female students of a college to remove their inner garments as evidence of menstruation. A senior police officer said on Friday that after the incident came to light and the uproar over it, a police team reached the educational institute for investigation. The officer said that the incident allegedly took place at the Shri Sahajanand Girls Institute on 11 February. The institute is run by a trust of the Swaminarayan Temple.
A student told that the incident happened in a hostel in SSGI campus. Undergraduate and undergraduate courses are taught in this campus.
Superintendent of Police of Kutch West Saurabh Tolumbia said, “We have sent a police team led by a woman inspector to talk to the girl students so that an FIR can be lodged.” Although the girls are not ready to come forward but we believe that a girl will definitely come forward to register an FIR.
Gujarat State Women’s Commission chairperson Leela Anakolia said that she has taken cognizance of this alleged case and has sought a detailed report from Bhuj police on it. Darshana Dholakia, Vice Chancellor in-charge of Kranthi Guru Shyamji Krishna Verma Kutch University, has constituted a committee to investigate in this regard.
Dholakia told reporters on Friday, there is a rule of the hostel that menstruating girls will not eat with other girls. However, some girls broke this rule. When the matter reached the administration, some of the girls themselves allowed a female employee to undergo a menstrual check.
Dholakia said, “The girls told me that they apologized to the administration for breaking the college rules.” The girls told me that they were not threatened and that it was their own fault, “she said.” Actually, there is no scope to do anything in this matter. ”
However, a girl living in the hostel says that she was harassed by the hostel administration at the behest of college principal Rita Raninga. The student demanded strict action against the employees and the Principal involved in the incident.
