The opposition said the Delhi Waqf Board administrators were not Muslims and argued that the law says non-Muslims cannot be on the Waqf Board. A BJP MP said that when Arvind Kejriwal was the Chief Minister, he had appointed a Hindu administrator to the Delhi Waqf Board.

Chaos broke out again during the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) meeting on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill after the Delhi Waqf Board supported the proposed changes in the law. Delhi Waqf Board administrator IAS Ashwini Kumar supported the bill, while opposition MPs termed his stance illegal.

The opposition walked out of the meeting in protest against the presentation of Delhi Waqf Board. AAP MP Sanjay Singh said that the presentation was not scrutinized by the Delhi government. The opposition also alleged that changes were made in the initial report of the Waqf Board without the approval of Delhi Chief Minister Atishi. Atishi also wrote a letter to the committee, stating that the presentation should be considered void.

The meeting was also attended by TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee, who was suspended for a day last week for unruly conduct. Banerjee had injured her hand by breaking a glass water bottle after a heated argument with BJP MP Abhijit Gangopadhyay during the meeting. On Tuesday, Banerjee said she got angry after Abhijit Gangopadhyay abused her and her parents.
