Chhagan Bhujbal was born on 15 October 1947 in Dindori district of Maharashtra. Currently, Bhujbal is a member of the current Maharashtra government headed by Eknath Shinde. Presently he is a member of the 14th Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra from Yeola Assembly. He has also served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 1999 – December 2003 and 2009 – 2010. Bhujbal previously served as the Minister of Public Works Department and Minister of Home Affairs in the Government of Maharashtra. He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from an engineering school in Mumbai. In the initial days, he used to do agriculture and related business. He entered politics by joining Shiv Sena.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) registered a case of disproportionate assets against Bhujbal and his family members in 2017. The case alleged that Bhujbal and his family had acquired wealth beyond their known sources of income.

He started his politics in the 1960s. After this, Bhujbal worked in Shiv Sena as the branch chief in Mazgaon area of central Mumbai in 1960. During this time, he was elected councilor in 1973 and emerged as a flamboyant Shiv Sena leader. Bhujbal was hardworking from the beginning. Hard work, dedication and people’s support soon took Bhujbal to great heights. In the year 1990, Shiv Sena and BJP had jointly contested the assembly elections. After this, there was a tremendous increase in the graph of Shiv Sena in terms of seats. During this period, Bhujbal held various ministerial posts in the Shiv Sena-BJP coalition government in Maharashtra. He also held portfolios like Public Works Department (PWD), Minister of Home Affairs and Ministry of Tourism. First in 1985 and again in 1991, Bhujbal was the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 18 October 1999 to 23 December 2003.
Chhagan Bhujbal’s arrest
Bhujbal faced allegations of corruption and money laundering during his tenure as Minister of Public Works Department in Maharashtra. After this he was accused of being involved in the Maharashtra Sadan scam. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in 2016 in a money laundering case related to the construction of Maharashtra Sadan and Kalina Library in Mumbai. Bhujbal has also been accused of land grabbing and illegal construction activities in Maharashtra. These controversies greatly affected Bhujbal’s political career. Presently Chhagan Bhujbal is a Cabinet Minister in the Government of Maharashtra. He holds the portfolios of Food and Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs. After the split in NCP, Chhagan Bhujbal decided to join Ajit Pawar faction and he is currently active with them in Maharashtra politics.
