Mumbai and its suburbs received intermittent heavy rains on Saturday, leading to waterlogging in some areas of the metropolis but local train services were running normally, officials said.

The weather department said Mumbai received 91 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours till 8 am on Saturday, while its eastern and western suburbs recorded 87 mm and 93 mm rainfall respectively.

The IMD has forecast heavy rains in Nagpur and Vidarbha region on Saturday and extremely heavy rains in the next two days. The department has advised people not to venture out of their homes unnecessarily.

It has issued a 'red' alert for Chandrapur and an 'orange' alert for Nagpur, Amravati and Wardha districts on Saturday. The department has also predicted moderate to heavy rains in Mumbai.

An RMD official said that the sea level in Mumbai is likely to rise up to 4.24 metres at 11:28 am and 3.66 metres at 11:24 pm.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials said that due to waterlogging in some areas of the city due to heavy rains, traffic on the road near Sheetal Cinema and Kale Marg in Kurla area was diverted to other routes. They said that traffic on Aarey Road in Goregaon East has been diverted towards Seepz-Marol Maroshi-JVLR.

The Andheri subway was also temporarily closed due to waterlogging and vehicles were diverted towards SV Road, a traffic police official said.

Central Railway and Western Railway, which operate suburban rail services in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, said that local train services are being operated normally. Mumbai and its surrounding areas have been receiving intermittent heavy rains for the last few days.
