Elephant found dead in Balrampur district of Chhattisgarh

An elephant was found dead in a paddy field in Balrampur district of Chhattisgarh on Monday. The forest officer gave this information. The carcass of the male elephant was recovered this morning in Murka village under Vadrafnagar forest range, a forest official said.

He said the elephant was part of a herd of six elephants that had been roaming in the area for the past few days. The officer said that after receiving information in the morning, forest personnel reached the spot and started the post-mortem process.

He said that investigation is going on to find out the exact reason behind the death. Only after investigation will we get information whether the elephant died due to electrocution or there could be some other reason for it.

On October 26, three elephants, including a cub, died of electrocution in a forest area in Raigarh district of the state. On November 1, an elephant cub died of electrocution in Bilaspur district.

Officials had earlier said that about 80 elephants have died in Chhattisgarh in the last six years, due to reasons ranging from disease and age to electrocution.

Human-elephant conflict in the northern part of the state has been a major cause of concern for the last decade. Mainly Surguja, Raigarh, Korba, Surajpur and Balrampur districts are facing this danger.
