History of Maharashtra: Maharashtra is the engine of development of the country, its history has been like this
As a result of linguistic reorganization of the states of the country, Maharashtra state was formed on 01 May 1960. This state was formed by merging the surrounding Marathi speaking areas. Which were earlier under the control of four different administrations. It included the district between Daman and Goa included in the original British Bombay province, the southern eight districts of the Central Province (Madhya Pradesh), five districts of the Nizam’s princely state of Hyderabad and many such small princely states in the surrounding areas.
This is how Maharashtra became
After independence, Bombay province included Maharashtra and Gujarat. When the proposal for formation of Gujarat and Maharashtra came, the then PM of the country Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru advocated making Mumbai a separate union state. PM Nehru argued that to keep Mumbai as the economic capital of the country, it was necessary to make it centrally governed. But PM Nehru had no luck and the country’s first Finance Minister and finance expert Chintamani Deshmukh strongly opposed PM Nehru and due to this issue he resigned from the Union Cabinet.
However, later under the 1960 Bombay Reorganization Act, on May 1, 1960, this combined province was divided into two states named Maharashtra and Gujarat. The capital of the old Bombay State became the capital of the new Maharashtra. In the year 1995, the name of Bombay was changed to Mumbai.

The CM of the state is Eknath Shinde. There is a huge tension going on between BJP and Shiv Sena in the state for a long time.
