How many lakh liters of 'Rail Neer' water do train passengers drink in a day? Government gave information in Parliament

A large number of people travel by train across the country. Have you ever wondered how many liters of drinking water is consumed in a train in a day? The Central Government has given this information inside the Parliament. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that about 13 lakh liters of bottled drinking water ‘Rail Neer’ is being supplied daily to train passengers on the railway network.

The quality of drinking water is checked from time to time.

While informing the Lok Sabha about the efforts of Indian Railways to provide safe and potable drinking water facilities at all the stations, the government also provided zone-wise details of Water Vending Machines (WVM) installed there. The Railway Minister said that there are instructions to check from time to time and take necessary corrective action to ensure the quality of drinking water being provided at railway stations.

Complaints are resolved immediately

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, while replying to a question raised by BJP MP Anup Sanjay Dhotre to know about the supply of drinking water at railway stations across the country, said, ‘Drinking water facilities are regularly inspected and maintained. Complaints are resolved immediately.

Through which channels are complaints received?

Complaints regarding deficiency in services including water supply are received through various channels such as web portals, social media etc. These complaints are received at various levels including Railway Board, Zonal Railways, Division Office etc.

The complaints received are forwarded to the concerned wing of the Railways. Necessary actions are taken to investigate and address them. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said, ‘Receipt of such complaints and action taken on them is a continuous and dynamic process, hence a centralized repository of these is not maintained.’

954 water vending machines were installed

Providing zone-wise details of water vending machines, the minister said that 954 such machines have been installed at railway stations. Vaishnav said, ‘Indian Railways also provides safe and affordable packaged drinking water bottles – Rail Neer, approved by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in trains and stations. Around 13 lakh liters of Rail Neer is being supplied daily to passengers traveling on trains and stations across the Indian Railways network.’
