How much further will Canada fall? Australian channel banned for showing Foreign Minister Jaishankar's PC, India reprimands

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar

New Delhi: The Canadian government blocked the page of the social media account of Australian TV news channel ‘Australia Today’ for showing the press conference of Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar. On this, the Indian Foreign Ministry has given a strong reaction and scolded Canada. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Thursday that we have learned that the social media handle, page of an important migrant outlet in Canada has been blocked. This incident has exposed Canada’s hypocrisy towards freedom of expression.

Australian channel had shown Jaishankar’s PC

Canada took this action hours after the Saksha press conference of Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and his counterpart in Australia Penny Wong. In this PC, Jaishankar had raised the issue of Canada accusing India without any evidence. Australian channel telecasted this PC in Canada.

Foreign Ministry scolded Canada

Randhir Jaiswal said that Canada took action along with Penny Wong and Foreign Minister Dr. S. Just a few hours after Jaishankar’s press conference was telecast. We were surprised. This seemed strange to us. This once again exposes Canada’s hypocrisy towards freedom of expression. The External Affairs Minister talked about three things in his media programs. First, Canada made allegations without any specific evidence. Second, unacceptable surveillance of Indian diplomats in Canada. Third, giving political space to anti-India elements in Canada. From this you can conclude why Australia Today channel was blocked by Canada.

Said this regarding the attack on the temple

On the attack on a Hindu temple in Canada, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that we condemn the attack on the temple in Brampton. We also call on the Government of Canada to uphold the rule of law and bring to justice those who incite violence. We hope the Government of Canada will take appropriate action.

This information was given regarding the Consulate camp

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that you may have seen the message posted by our Consulate in Toronto that they had to cancel the Consular Camp scheduled for the weekend because they did not get adequate security or safety assurance from the government. We have a large expat community in Canada. So this Consulate Camp that we organize is useful for the community. I understand that in other parts of Canada, for example in Vancouver, consular camps will be held. These consular camps are organized at the request of community organizations.
