A 21-year-old Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi student allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a fan in his hostel room. Police gave this information on Wednesday. He told that he has not found any suicide note from the room of Kumar Yash, a second year M.Sc. student.
Kumar, a resident of Deoghar, Jharkhand, was undergoing mental treatment. Kumar also went to IIT Hospital on Tuesday. A senior police officer said, “On Tuesday, around 11 pm, the police control room (PCR) received a call informing that an IIT student had committed suicide in room number D57 of Aravali Hostel. A personnel was immediately sent to the spot. The room was locked from inside, so Kumar’s friends and IIT employees broke the window and entered his room.
The officer said Kumar had used two towels to hang himself. His friend and institute staff cut the towel and took it down. He said, “Kumar was taken to Safdarjung Hospital in an IIT ambulance, where doctors said that he had died before he could be brought to the hospital.” The body has been kept in the mortuary. The relatives of the deceased have been informed. The hostel room where Kumar committed suicide has been investigated by the ‘Mobile Crime Team’.,
According to the police, no suicide note was found there, but as per Kumar’s medical health report card, he was undergoing mental treatment and had also visited IIT hospital on Tuesday.
“He was treated and given an appointment with a psychiatrist on October 29,” he said. Statements of his friends have been recorded. There is no suspicion of any conspiracy in this matter.” He said that the matter is being investigated.
