Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first Telecom Standards Conference in India. It is organized by the United Nations agency International Telecommunication Union (ITU). This conference will be held on October 15 along with India Mobile Congress (IMC). This year, the International Telecommunication Union-World Telecommunications Standardization Assembly (ITU-WTSA) 2024 will be held in India and the Asia-Pacific region for the first time at the India Pavilion. PM Modi said that today India is one of the most happening countries in the world in terms of telecom and its related technology. India has 120 crore mobile phone users, 95 crore internet users, more than 40% of the world’s real-time digital transactions, where digital connectivity has been shown to be an effective tool in last-mile delivery. Discussion on the state and future of global telecommunications will become a medium for global good.

The coming together of the International Telecommunication Union and the World Telecommunications Standardization Assembly (WTSA) is also important. WTSA’s goal is to work on the Goblet standard. The major role of India Mobile Congress is related to services. Today, quality services are in great focus in India. We are also paying special attention to standards. Along with WTSA 2024, the eighth edition of India Mobile Congress is also taking place. With the support of the Department of Telecommunications, IMC has significantly expanded in size and scope, with the aim of doubling its global participation compared to the previous year. Over 120 countries are expected to participate, strengthening IMC’s position as Asia’s largest technology expo and a key player in the global digital transformation.

The theme of this year’s congress is “The Future Is Now”, which will include discussions on cutting-edge topics such as quantum technology, circular economy, 6G progress and showcasing 5G use cases. The event will also focus on areas including cloud and edge computing, IoT, semiconductor, satellite communications (satcom) and electronics manufacturing.
