Delhi’s air quality verged on the ‘severe’ category on Sunday and the AQI was recorded at 382 û, the worst recorded in the country that day. Fifteen monitoring stations in the city recorded air quality levels in the ‘severe’ category, with AQI readings exceeding 400, the data showed. With this, the temperature on Sunday night was the lowest ever recorded in the city, because there was dense fog and mist in the morning and evening.

According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature recorded on Sunday was 16.5 degrees Celsius, which is 1.2 degrees above normal. The national capital’s 24-hour average air quality index (AQI), recorded at 4 pm every day, was 382, worse than the previous day, when the air quality on Saturday was recorded at 316. The places where air pollution levels reached ‘severe’ zone are Anand Vihar, Ashok Vihar, Bawana, Dwarka, Jahangirpuri, Mundka, NSIT Dwarka, Najafgarh, Nehru Nagar, Okhla Phase 2, Patparganj, Punjabi Bagh, Rohini, Wazirpur and Vivek Vihar.

Despite a temporary respite from the winds, Delhi witnessed a rise in pollution levels after Diwali, with a significant spike recorded on Sunday. Elsewhere in the country, AQI levels at many places were recorded in the ‘very poor’ category, though it was still better than the national capital. AQI was 335 in Bahadurpura in Telangana, 302 in Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, 313 in Noida and 321 in Sonipat in Haryana.
An AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good’, between 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, between 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, between 201 and 300 ‘poor’, between 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, 401 And between 450 is considered ‘severe’ and above 450 is considered extremely serious.
How will be the weather of Delhi on Monday?
According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature of Delhi was recorded at 33.2 degrees Celsius, which is 2.7 degrees more than normal. Humidity levels during the day ranged between 64 to 95 percent. The weather office forecast said there is a possibility of light fog on Monday morning, with the maximum and minimum temperatures expected to be 34 and 17 degrees Celsius respectively.
