Infiltrator caught in Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma said- sent him back to Bangladesh

Guwahati. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma on Sunday said a Bangladeshi national was caught while illegally entering the Indian border in Karimganj district and was deported back to the neighboring country. “Bangladeshi infiltrator Mohibullah was arrested near the International Border and sent across the border in Karimganj,” Sharma said in a post on social media platform ‘X’. Karimganj, Cachar, Dhubri and South Salmara-Mankachar districts of Assam. Share a 267.5 km long international border with Bangladesh.

Sharma said, “Our Assam Police and Border Security Force (BSF) remain on round-the-clock alert to foil all infiltration attempts on the border. Our team did a great job.” There is an Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Sutarkandi in Karimganj. There are a total of three ICPs in the Northeast, of which two are located at Dawki in Meghalaya and Akhaura in Tripura.

Assam Director General of Police (DGP) G.P. Singh had earlier said that the state police and BSF will make every possible effort to stop any attempt by non-Indians to enter the country’s border from Bangladesh as per law. He had said that all Indian passport holders would be allowed to return from crisis-hit Bangladesh through the state’s entry gate.
