Preparations have been made on a large scale to deal with cyclone ‘Dana’.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi twice and inquired about the state’s preparedness in the wake of the cyclone. According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, during the conversation, the Chief Minister provided detailed information about the deployment of forces like NDRF and ODRAF for the rehabilitation and protection of the people. The CMO said that the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the preparedness of the state. Union Minister Amit Shah also discussed the situation with the Chief Minister and promised to provide all necessary assistance.

Let us tell you that according to the Indian Meteorological Department, the severe cyclone ‘Dana’ is moving rapidly towards north-northwest. At the same time, ISRO said on Thursday that its satellites are keeping an eye on ‘Dana’ due to which data is being made available immediately to help in disaster management efforts. She said the polar orbiting satellite EOS-06 and geostationary satellite INSAT-3DR are regularly providing valuable information on the position of the cyclone. ISRO said, ‘Cyclonic storm ‘Dana’ is approaching the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal. ISRO’s EOS-06 and INSAT-3DR satellites have been tracking the storm since October 20, providing real-time data to aid disaster management efforts.

Lakhs of people were evacuated to safe places

Due to the fear of cyclone ‘Dana’ making landfall, authorities in Odisha and West Bengal have evacuated lakhs of people to safe places. Along with this, schools have been closed, more than 400 trains have been canceled and flights have been suspended. The wind speed of this storm, which hit the coast between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra port in Odisha early on Friday, can reach 120 kilometers per hour. Essential items including food, drinking water, baby items and women police officers are available at the shelter centres. The official said that trees have been uprooted in many areas.

Administrative staff fully alert

The administrative staff is on full alert mode regarding cyclone ‘Dana’. The Indian Coast Guard has also been put on high alert and is closely monitoring the situation. ICG has taken proactive steps to ensure preparedness to deal with any emergency arising out of the impact of the cyclone. According to estimates, at the time of landfall, waves in the sea will be 2 meters higher than normal. It is being told that ‘Dana’ will also have the same impact as the cyclonic storm ‘Yas’ that occurred in the year 2021. (PTI)
