Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a function organized after the inauguration of RJ Shankara Eye Hospital on Sunday. During this, he said that RJ Shankara Eye Hospital is a confluence of spirituality and modernity, which will serve the elderly and also give new light to the children.
Starting his address, PM Modi said, ‘I have had the privilege of having darshan of the most revered Shankaracharya ji, receiving prasad and blessings. It is due to his blessings that today Kashi and Purvanchal have got another modern hospital. RJ Shankara Eye Hospital in the city of Lord Shankar is dedicated to the people from today. I congratulate all the family members of Kashi and Purvanchal very much. He said that friends, it is said in our scriptures that ‘Tamso Ma Jyotirgamaya’, that is, take us from darkness to light. This hospital will remove darkness from the lives of Varanasi and many people, and take them towards light.

The PM said, ‘RJ Shankara Eye Hospital will remove darkness from the lives of many people of Varanasi and this region, and take them towards light. This hospital will also serve the elderly and provide light to children. A large number of poor people are going to get free treatment here. This hospital has brought employment opportunities for the youth here. He further said that Kashi has been recognized as the capital of religion and culture since time immemorial. Now Kashi is also becoming famous as a big health center and healthcare hub of Uttar Pradesh and Purvanchal.
PM Modi said, ‘During the previous governments, health services in Purvanchal, including Varanasi, were completely ignored. The situation was such that 10 years ago there was no treatment for meningitis at the block level in Purvanchal. Children used to die, there was an uproar in the media, but the previous governments did not do anything. He said, ‘I am satisfied that in the last decade, there has been unprecedented expansion of health facilities not only in Kashi but in the entire region of Purvanchal. Today, more than 100 centers are working to treat meningitis in Purvanchal.

PM Modi said, ‘Today India’s strategy related to health has five pillars – preventive healthcare, i.e. prevention before disease occurs, timely diagnosis of disease, free and cheap treatment, affordable medicines, good treatment in small towns, doctors. To overcome the shortage and expand technology in healthcare.
According to people associated with the organization, this eye hospital has been targeted to provide facilities to the patients of 20 districts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh as well as the border areas of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. This is the 17th hospital in the country operated from Kanchi Math. According to the people of the organization, a target has been set to provide free eye operations to 30 thousand patients here every year. Many prominent people associated with the institute including R Ramani, Rakesh Jhunjhunwala’s wife Rekha Jhunjhunwala presented their views at the function.
