Jammu-Kashmir Assembly passed resolution in favor of Article 370, BJP created huge ruckus inside the Assembly and on the streets.
The proceedings of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly were disrupted today amid uproar over the resolution demanding restoration of special status. Let us tell you that the House has passed a resolution demanding talks between the Center and the elected representatives to restore the special status of the erstwhile state. The opposition members created a ruckus during the passing of the resolution. After the motion was passed, there was uproar in the Assembly as BJP members came in front of the Speaker’s podium to oppose the motion, following which Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather adjourned the proceedings for 15 minutes. However, as soon as the assembly proceedings resumed, BJP members continued their protest and raised slogans against Rather.
BJP MLA and leader of opposition Sunil Sharma said, “We have information that you (Assembly Speaker) called a meeting of ministers yesterday and prepared the draft resolution yourself.” Rather asked the protesting BJP members to their seats. Asked to leave and allow the proceedings of the House to continue. Amidst the uproar, the Assembly Speaker asked NC’s Javed Hasan Baig to move the motion of thanks for the Lieutenant Governor’s address. As the noise continued, the Speaker again adjourned the proceedings for an hour.

Earlier, the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly passed a resolution amid the uproar demanding the Center to hold talks with the elected representatives to restore the special status of the erstwhile state. As soon as the assembly proceedings began, Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chaudhary presented a proposal to restore the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, which was canceled by the Center on August 5, 2019. “This Assembly reaffirms the importance of the special status and constitutional guarantees that protect the identity, culture and rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and expresses concern over their unilateral removal,” the resolution moved by Surinder Chaudhary said. “This Assembly emphasizes that any process of restoration must keep in mind national unity and the legitimate aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” the resolution said. BJP members including Sunil Sharma opposed the proposal saying it was not part of the listed work. “We reject the proposal,” he said. The agenda given to us was that the discussion would be on the Lieutenant Governor’s address.
On the other hand, after passing the resolution regarding restoration of special status of Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that the Assembly has done its work. Abdullah told reporters outside the Assembly complex, “The Assembly has done its work. I will only say this.” On the other hand, the opposition says on this issue that this is betrayal of the people. BJP leaders say that by restoring 370, the National Conference government wants to show that it is against Valmikis, Gorkha community, West Pakistan refugees, Paharis and Gurjars.
