Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Singh on Monday invited Jammu and Kashmir National Conference leader Omar Abdullah for the swearing-in ceremony on October 16. The LG mentioned in his letter that he had received a letter from JKNC President Dr Farooq Abdullah on October 11, informing him that Omar Abdullah has been unanimously elected leader of the legislature party. “I am pleased to invite you to form and lead the Government of Jammu and Kashmir,” the LG’s letter said.

Omar Abdullah wrote on X that it was a pleasure to welcome the Principal Secretary to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. He handed over a letter from the LG’s office inviting me to form the next government in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier, President’s rule was lifted from Jammu and Kashmir, paving the way for the formation of a new government in the Union Territory. The Union Home Ministry has issued a gazette notification in this regard. Various parties have welcomed the removal of President’s rule from the state.
Let us tell you that the notification signed by President Draupadi Murmu states, “In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 73 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019 (34 of 2019) read with Articles 239 and 239A of the Constitution of India.” “The order dated October 31, 2019, in respect of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, immediately preceding the appointment of the Chief Minister under Section 54 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, is repealed.”

National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah will be the next Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. He has been elected the leader of the alliance. Let us remind you that President’s rule was imposed in Jammu and Kashmir on 31 October 2019 after the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir was divided into two union territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019 was passed by the Parliament on August 5, 2019. Article 370 of the Constitution, which gave special status to the erstwhile state, was also abrogated on the same day.
