A Kerala court has sentenced a 45-year-old woman to life imprisonment after finding her guilty of murdering her mother-in-law in December 2019.
Government advocate Sisin G Mundkal said that Kollam Additional District and Sessions Judge (First) P.N. Vinod sentenced Girita Kumari, wife of the deceased’s younger son.
According to the prosecution, when the mother-in-law came to know about Girita’s illicit relationship with her neighbour, she scolded her, due to which Girita committed the crime.
He told that on the afternoon of 11 December 2019, when the mother-in-law was sleeping in her room, Girita hit her on the head and face with a stone. The government advocate said that after hearing the screams of the woman, her husband and others entered the house by breaking the kitchen door and saw that she was lying on the floor in a pool of blood. He was taken to a hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, but he succumbed to his injuries.
The government advocate said that Girita was convicted on the basis of the statements of the people who entered the house after hearing the woman’s scream and other circumstantial evidence.
