Revenue Minister K Rajan said the notification issued by the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry on October 11 has come as a huge disappointment to Puram lovers, for whom fireworks are an integral part of the festival.
The Left Front government in Kerala on Sunday strongly protested against the recent gazette notification issued by the Central government, which sets certain conditions for fireworks.
The Kerala government argues that this will hamper the smooth conduct of the prestigious Thrissur Pooram festival. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, state Revenue Minister K Rajan said the notification issued by the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry on October 11 has come as a huge disappointment to Puram lovers, for whom fireworks are an integral part of the festival. He sought personal intervention of the Prime Minister to amend the rules to allow all celebrations and rituals of Thrissur Pooram to continue.
