MLA Parlad Singh Sahni contested the first municipal corporation election from Mori Gate ward in 1977 and lost by 100 votes. In 1983 he won the municipal elections from the same municipal ward and was made the Chairman of Civil Lines Zone from 1983 to 1990 and then repeatedly contested from Chandni Chowk Assembly Constituency from 1998 to 2015. He lost to Alka Lamba in the 2015 assembly elections. He was elected to the 2nd Legislative Assembly of Delhi in 1998. He defeated second place Veeresh Pratap Chaudhary (BJP) by 8,162 votes.
In the 2003 state assembly elections he further improved his victory margin from the previous election. In the 2008 state assembly elections, he defeated the second placed candidate Praveen Khandelwa (BJP) by a margin of 8,019 votes. In the 2013 state assembly election, he defeated Suman Kumar Gupta (BJP) by a margin of 8,243 votes.
