Ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra, the Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has suffered a major setback. Sameer Bhujbal, nephew of prominent OBC leader Chhagan Bhujbal, has resigned from the post of Mumbai president of the group. It is reported that Bhujbal is preparing to contest from Nandgaon constituency in the upcoming assembly elections. However, the Nandgaon seat is currently with the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena. According to sources, if his candidature is not made from Ajit Pawar faction then he can contest as an independent from Nandgaon seat against Shiv Sena’s Suhas Kande.

Earlier it was being said that he would contest the elections from Sharad Pawar faction of NCP. However, now he has announced to contest the elections as an independent. At the same time, shortly after the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) declared outgoing MLA Sunil Shelke as its candidate from Maval assembly constituency in Pune district, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Minister of State Bala Bhegde resigned from the party. Announced. NCP state vice president Bapusaheb Bhegde also showed a rebellious attitude and said that he will contest the Maharashtra Assembly elections to be held on November 20.

Bala Bhegde told reporters that he and his supporters have announced their resignation. The supporters told him that they would support Bapu Bhegde and try their best to defeat Shelke. Sitting MLA Shelke had defeated former BJP MLA Bala Bhegde from this seat in 2019. Bapu Bhegde said he was confident of getting a ticket from the Ajit Pawar-led NCP, but the promise was not fulfilled. “I have decided to contest the elections because the party had assured me of a ticket,” he said.
