Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday released its first list for the Maharashtra Assembly elections, which includes the names of 99 candidates. The party has given ticket to state Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis from his stronghold Nagpur South-West. Apart from this, party’s state unit president Chandrashekhar Bawankule has been made the candidate from Kamathi. BJP has given ticket to state government minister Sudhir Mungantiwar from Ballarpur and Shrijaya Chavan, daughter of former Chief Minister and senior leader Ashok Chavan, from Bhokar assembly seat in Nanded district.
The list also includes the names of Mumbai BJP president Ashish Sellar, who has been fielded from Vandre West seat, and Nitish Rane, son of senior party leader and Lok Sabha MP Narayan Rane, who has been fielded from Kankavali, the seat from which They are currently represented in the Assembly.
Other prominent candidates include Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar from Vandre West, Nitish Rane from Kankavali, Girish Mahajan from Jamner, Sudhir Mungantiwar from Ballarpur, Mangal Prabhat Lodha from Malabar Hill, Rahul Narvekar from Colaba and Chhatrapati Shivaji’s descendant Chhatrapati Shivendra Raje Bhosale from Satara. After the results of the 2019 assembly elections, the politics of Maharashtra has completely changed. In the 288-member state assembly, BJP had fielded candidates on 165 seats and became the largest party by winning 105 seats. Shiv Sena contested elections on 126 seats and won 56. On the other hand, Congress had fielded candidates on 147 seats and won 44 seats, while NCP won 54 out of 121 seats.
