Several dry days will be observed in Mumbai and other cities of Maharashtra this month in view of the state assembly elections. The Election Commission of India (EC) has mandated these dry days to ensure orderly voting. Dry days refer to days when the sale of alcohol is banned in an area, usually to ensure the peaceful conduct of major national, religious or cultural events as well as elections.

Prohibitory orders are also imposed at places where elections are scheduled to be held, especially on the day of polling as well as on the day when votes are counted to avoid any disruption in the process. As per the official schedule announced by the Election Commission, voting for the 2024 assembly elections in Maharashtra will take place on November 20. Voting will be held in a single phase for all 288 assembly seats in the state. Earlier, Mumbai, along with other cities in Maharashtra like Thane and Pune, observed a dry day on November 12 due to the auspicious occasion of Kartik Ekadashi.
Know when is dry day
November 18: There will be a ban on sale of liquor in Mumbai and other cities after 6 pm.
November 19: A day before the crucial assembly elections, Mumbai will have a completely dry day.
November 20: There will be a ban on sale of liquor in Mumbai till 6 pm on the day of voting.
November 23: Sale of liquor is banned till 6 pm as the Election Commission will announce the results of Maharashtra Assembly elections 2024.

Campaigning for the Maharashtra Assembly elections to be held on November 20 and the second phase of Jharkhand elections ended today. Voting for 43 seats in the first phase in Jharkhand took place on November 13. Voting for 288 seats in Maharashtra will be held in a single phase on November 20. The election results of both the states will come on November 23. A total of 4,136 candidates are in the fray for 288 seats in Maharashtra, including 2,086 independent contenders. However, this time, the political landscape is more fragmented with the separation of Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party over the past two years.
