The Maharashtra government on Thursday directed the State Education Commissioner to empower principals to declare school holidays on November 17, 18 and 19 as many teachers will be on election duty. An officer gave this information.
The step has been taken after various teachers’ unions approached the state school education department seeking a viable solution. Voting will take place on November 20, while the results will be declared on November 23.
As part of regular practice, some schools will be converted into polling stations for the day, the official said. Election Commission officials prefer to allot polling stations to teachers living outside the area to ensure fairness. According to the government, parents of students of schools which will remain closed will be informed about this.
